My area of interest is geoscience education, which allows me to combine
two of my greatest passions—geology and teaching. I am primarily focused
on improving the curriculum and teaching methods used in high school and
undergraduate introductory geology courses through the creation and
implementation of inquiry based activities, peer collaboration, and
interactive discussions. Ultimately, my goal is to provide my students
with a comprehensive understanding of the Earth system, so that they are
able to make informed environmental policy decisions. In addition to
teaching and developing curriculum for the Geology 101 courses I am also
actively involved in the innovative UNC-BEST program, which promotes the
creation of the next generation of highly qualified teachers by allowing
undergraduate science majors to earn a NC teaching license while
completing their science degree.
