Lees named editor-in-chief of seismology journal

Dr. Jonathan Lees has been named editor-in-chief of Seismological Research Letters.

The bimonthly journal is published by the Seismological Society of America, an international society which advances seismology and “its applications in understanding and mitigating earthquake hazards.”

The professional journal is read by seismologists and non-specialists and produces timely articles of events in the public interest, such as information on earthquakes not long after they occur.

Lees will be featured as editor-in-chief beginning with the journal’s March/April 2011 issue.

Lees’ research focuses on active fault zones, volcanoes and geothermal systems. He has traveled the world to study volcanic activity and seismic waves and how volcanoes work. He has published research in various journals, including Seismological Research Letters, Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research andNature.
