Kim and Lees win outstanding poster award

Ph.D. student Keehoon Kim and his advisor, Dr. Jonathan Lees, won an award for "Outstanding poster presentation regarding novel application of R" at the 8th International R User Conference, held June 12-15 at Vanderbilt University. R is an open source programming language used by Lees and his students for their seismological and volcanological research.

The title of the poster was "Modeling of Volcanic Sound Radiation Using Finite-difference Time-domain Method in R". "We showed how to develop FDTD (finite-difference time-domain) programs in R and their successful application to real volcanoes," explained Kim.
