Smooth basaltic lava at "Jaggar's Fissure" near the summit caldera on Mauna Loa. Here the lava is very smooth because owing to extreme heat near the vent, caused in part by burning of volcanic gases as they came in contact with atmospheric oxygen. This vent last erupted in 1984.
