Leg 2: Mono Lake

Looking north along the Mono Domes chain of silicic domes.

A thick silicic lava flow, known as a coulee, poured down the west side of the Mono Domes.

Panum Crater, a beautiful rhyolite dome surrounded by a low tuff ring, on the south side of Mono Lake.

Shorelines along the south shore of Mono Lake. These shorelines were left behind as the lake shrank owing to water diversion in the 20th century. Shorelines from Pleistocene Lake Russell are far higher.

A wide-angle view of Pahoa (right) and Negit (left) islands, looking to the southeast.

A closer view of Pahoa Island. Note the small tuff ring on the near side of the island.
